Membrane technologies are increasingly being employed to produce high quality treated wastewaters for discharge to sensitive waterbodies or for reuse purposes. Membrane fouling is one of the most challenging factors that reduces membrane capacity and increases operating expenses. In particular, membranes that are located downstream of biological treatment processes have been found to demonstrate high levels of fouling under cold weather conditions. This project will employ a combination of historical data review, field scale sampling and bench scale testing to seek to understand the mechanisms leading to cold weather fouling. A selection of fouling mitigations strategies will be tested to identify a preferred strategy for reducing membrane fouling under cold weather conditions.x000D
