Camosun College is pleased to announce that Camosun Innovates will be partnering on an applied researchx000D
project with Con-cur West Inc., a Coquitlam-based plumbing equipment supplier. Con-cur West, providesx000D
plumbing and pipefitting equipment and supplies in western Canada, including backflow preventers whichx000D
prevent contaminated water from flowing into municipal water supplies. With support from the Naturalx000D
Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) on a level 2 Applied Research and Development grant,x000D
Con-cur West will be able to provide a product that can detect failure or tampering with backflow preventers,x000D
improving the security of municipal water supplies.x000D
Having already completed a proof of concept design. This project will focus on design refinements, advancedx000D
testing, and preparation for manufacturing. Backflow preventers are used throughout the water supply systemx000D
to prevent contamination. This remotely monitored system will improve water security and make problemx000D
detection easy and fast. The project will involve students from Camosun College who will gain valuable realx000D
life skills and expertise while working on the development of new innovative technology.x000D
