Today's microelectronics industry pushes miniaturization to its limits and faces important challenges. Anx000D
alternative is to use light to control and transfer information, like in fiber-optics telecommunication.x000D
Nanophotonics - the science that studies the interactions of light with matter on the nanometric scale - is at thex000D
heart of on-chip optical devices to interface and replace traditional electronics. Nanophotonic quantum dotx000D
lasers and resonators are key technologies to build photonic integrated circuits. Applied research inx000D
nanophotonics at the Cégep de l'Outaouais will focus on adapting these technologies - initially developed forx000D
telecommunications applications - to biomedical instrumentation, with possible applications in photodynamicx000D
therapy and biosensing (parallel DNA sequencing, real-time pathogen detection, ...). This research is part of ax000D
global initiative at Cégep de l'Outaouais to increase its contribution to applied research, entrepreneurship, andx000D
specialized technical education in the Outaouais region. The inauguration of its new research and innovationx000D
center in the Winter 2018 will help and support collaborations with local industrial partners, a key aspect ofx000D
this research.
