Communication is an essential part of everyday living. However, many people suffer from conditions andx000D
deficits that render them unable to communicate directly to others. For these individuals, a trained professionalx000D
is often required to assist them continuously, which makes it impossible for them to live independently. It alsox000D
places a heavy financial and psychological burden on their families. This project aims at developing a systemx000D
with which these individuals can communicate with their loved ones using only their thoughts, through ax000D
technology called brain-computer interface. Their intentions will be decoded from their brain waves orx000D
electroencephalogram (EEG), allowing them to control external devices. The research team will focus on ax000D
specific EEG modality called Steady State Visual Evoked Potential (SSVEP) in this project, and mechanismsx000D
will be developed to provide individualized optimal electrode positions for this SSVEP-based BCI system thatx000D
is commercially viable.
