Wireless communication has become a key aspect of our daily life where applications including voice, video, surveillance, health monitoring, transportation are among the many applications provided by current and future communication technologies. Recently, the Internet technology has undergone enormous changes since its early stages and it has become an important communication infrastructure targeting anywhere, anytime connectivity. Currently, an entirely new paradigm of communication has emerged with the inclusion of "machines" in the communications landscape. With the introduction of machine-to-machine (M2M), the next generation Internet or the Internet-of-Things (IoT) has to offer the facilities to connect different objects together whether they belong to humans or not. The ultimate objective of M2M communications in IoT is to construct comprehensive connections among all machines distributed over an extensive coverage area. The projected massive introduction of communicating machines has to be planned for and accommodated with applications requiring wide range of requirements and characteristics such as mobility support, reliability, coverage, required data rate, power consumption, hardware complexity, and device cost. Other planning and design issues for M2M communications include the future network architecture, the massive growth in the number of users, and the various device requirements that enable the concept of IoT. x000D
This proposal is part of Summit Tech. Inc. initiatives to support NB-IoT using an IMS architecture. In that, the proposal will address the important aspects of the implementation and adaptability of the narrow-band IOT (NB-IOT) technology, a new standard recently considered by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) committee. Different aspects such as the implementation issues and possible adaptation of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), as being an all-IP simple yet efficient architecture, will be investigated in the context of NB-IOT. In this collaborative work, Summit's main objective is to contribute to the standardization of these new technologies. x000D
