Technology is being increasing used to monitor patient health and post-operative recovery. Xerus Inc., based inx000D
Vancouver, B.C., has developed an activity tracking monitoring system for the home to allow medicalx000D
practitioners to study and track the recovery of patients in their homes. The hope, is that this new technologyx000D
will speed the recovery of patients and improve post-operative health care. Working with Xerus Inc., thex000D
Krigolson Laboratory at the University will develop research analysis software to process and analyze the datax000D
that comes from the Xerus activity monitoring system. Importantly, the Krigolson Laboratory has vast expertisex000D
in digital and analog signal processing. Furthermore, the Krigolson Laboratory also has members, including thex000D
principal investigator, Dr. Krigolson with extensive programming experience. These two factors combine tox000D
make the Krigolson Laboratory the ideal venue for this project in collaboration with Xerus Inc.x000D
In addition to the benefits that Xerus Inc. will receive from this project, there are benefits to Canada as well:x000D
the project will contribute to the development of a new standard in patient health care at home. By developingx000D
data analysis software (and developing a research SDK) in addition to opening up the Xerus system for morex000D
widespread use by the development of our software package, this project will promote growth in the Canadianx000D
economy and research environments across the nation. Ottawa has expressed tremendous support for healthx000D
related research in Canada, with a $100 million initiative at Toronto's Baycrest Health Science Centre, forx000D
example, to address issues of aging and brain health, healthcare and monitoring and preventive measures.
