Description :
The MPTF Amazonia aims to enhance the region’s capacity to ensure both sustainable livelihoods and the sustainable use of biodiversity by providing funding through 3 windows: one for UN agencies, one for the 9 Amazonian States, and one for accredited civil society organizations. The Fund will support projects that strengthen governance mechanisms to support sustainable and inclusive economic development in harmony with natural ecosystems and improve the management of such issues as urban solid waste, GHG emissions, the release of pollutants in the air, water and soil.

The four outcomes to realize this change are:

Strengthening governance mechanisms to promote sustainable territorial development and the effectiveness of national laws, reducing illicit activities.

Promoting sustainable and inclusive economic development in harmony with natural ecosystems, with a view to transitioning to a new model of regional development.

Empowering the population living in the region (forest, rural areas and urban centers), and supporting sustainable cities and human settlements.

Strengthening the management of socio-environmental issues (e.g. urban solid waste, GHG emissions, release of pollutants in the air, water and soil).
