Cable concrete mats consist of a series of individual, precast concrete blocks, linked together by stainless steel cables andx000D
configured in the shape of rectangular mats, with spaces between blocks to allow vegetation to grow through and over them, andx000D
are used by contractors and engineers to control soil movement in culverts, spillways and storm drains, and in the construction ofx000D
roads and access ramps. International Erosion Control Systems (IECS) has established the erosion control and energy dissipationx000D
characteristics of its current products through extensive experiments conducted on prototype CCMs and developed a databasex000D
and model algorithm for product selection based on design requirements for a particular application. New product expectationsx000D
and site-specific customization are often outside the limits of the current model and thus, limits its utility in many modernx000D
applications. This project will develop a novel approach for product characterization utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD).x000D
CFD will provide an approach to enhance the fidelity of their current database, develop an accurate database for new products,x000D
and provide a means for conducting analysis of customized products in a timely and cost-effective manner. This approach willx000D
enable IECS to improve existing products to enhance their competitiveness in the existing market, and enable them to developx000D
unique new and custom products in an efficient and cost-effective manner so that they can compete in emerging markets inx000D
Canada and abroad.
