CCI Bioenergy in a renewable energy company that converts green bin organic wastes into methane through ax000D
process known as anaerobic digestion (AD). Along with methane, a semi-fluid nutrient rich byproduct referredx000D
to as a digestant is also produced. To 'close the loop' on the food production ecosystem, it would be ideal to usex000D
the digestant as a fertilizer. After profiling this nutrient-rich fluid, our interdisciplinary collaboration willx000D
develop an additive and process for converting this valued added product into a commercial biofertilizer whichx000D
can be easily applied to crops. As Ontario and Canada adjust to a carbon pricing economy this partnership willx000D
focus on resource recovery from traditional municipal and food waste and will pave the way for renewablex000D
energy producers and the agrifood growers to take advantage of a highly sustainable nutrient source.
