Our laboratory has developed and characterized a non-fluoridated dental varnish that protects teeth against dental caries, increases remineralization of the dental surface and also decreases hypersensitivity. The novelty of the varnish is that it contains a chitosan nanoparticle that prevents biofilm formation and promotes remineralization of the tooth. The nano-varnish also does not contain fluoride; the "go-to" agent for dental caries prevention on the market. There has been growing public concern about fluoride-based dental products for the prevention of dental caries and the remineralization of teeth in young children. Studies have shown that children consuming too much fluoride (swallowing fluoride containing dental products such as varnishes and toothpaste) can acquire "fluorosis" of the teeth. This condition causes white or brown discoloration or spots on teeth. Over 30 studies have associated elevated fluoride exposure with neurological impairment in children. In addition, most fluoride-based varnishes on the market do not provide significant remineralization of the tooth or antibacterial properties that decrease biofilm formation on the tooth. Our nano-varnish can be produced at a low-cost and can be used in infants, young children and adults. Dr. Kishen and his team have extensive expertise in the production of nanoparticles for multiple dental therapeutic markets. x000D

The main aim of the purpose of the market assessment is to determine market parameters and to validate the value proposition of the novel of the varnish with end-users. Adventus will be hired to determine market trends, market size, the competitive landscape and barriers to entry for the varnish. This analysis should provide the basis for the commercialization of the varnish and will assist the team in determining what factors will enhance product adoption by end-users.
