Plant diseases are becoming increasingly problematic in Canadian canola production resulting in reduced yieldsx000D
and economic losses. While current management tools include seed applied and foliar fungicides that are oftenx000D
effective, timing of application, and their specific mode of action is sometimes lacking. Thus, there is a need tox000D
better understand how new seed treatment chemistries can be developed to protect plants from devastatingx000D
fungal pathogens. Further, improving plant resistance to disease is a desirable long-term strategy but hasx000D
proven extremely difficult to achieve, especially when multiple disease organisms are involved. Bayerx000D
CropScience is committed to providing canola growers with long-term solutions to manage plant diseasex000D
through the development of new crop protection technologies. The aim of this Engage Plus project is to betterx000D
understand the genetic mechanisms that provide protection to canola against some of Canada's most prevalentx000D
fungal pathogens. The information gained from this project will allow Bayer CropScience to improvex000D
chemistry selection programs for experimental compounds and new canola varieties, and thereby shortening thex000D
time it takes to bring innovative products to the market.
