Canfor is a leading integrated forest products company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Canfor employsx000D
approximately 7,300 people as well as an additional 2,200 contractors. In 1965, Canfor expanded its operationsx000D
with the construction of Prince George Pulp and Paper Mill. Canfor Pulp Ltd. in Prince George contributesx000D
over 142,000 tonnes of pulp. This is a continuation of a project funded by an NSERC Engage Grant.x000D
The project is to develop a business modeled training game that is capable of educating Canfor Pulp employeesx000D
about the overall view of their work flow and the effects of their decisions in overall operations. The outcomex000D
of this project will be a web-based interactive computer game that is scalable, competitive, engaging, andx000D
educational. The game would model a simplified pulping system that captures the essence of the Canfor Pulpx000D
operation. It will include real-time strategies. There will be a predefined set of management roles for eachx000D
department. The player will assume the role of the mill manager and is responsible for the success or failure ofx000D
the mill as the business encounters and overcomes common scenarios. The situations and challenges that arisex000D
for each department will be impacted by the decision made by the player. The player will need to make choicesx000D
and decisions to address some typical business operating challenges. The game will generate the challengesx000D
commonly encountered and then accept the player's decisions and generate the appropriate results in thex000D
business model. The goal is to expose the cause and effect relationship that exists within Canfor Pulp mill.x000D
Other features of the game will be the ability to log in and save each state of the game, the competitive rankingx000D
of each player against other players, employee access control with Canfor, training the employee's real-timex000D
decision-making abilities, and custom branding.
