Red Dog Enterprises, Ltd. is a Manitoba-based company interested in promoting the use of Red Osierx000D
Dogwood (Cornussericea also known as Cornus stolonifera) extracts in animal feed due to their high content ofx000D
phenolic compounds and their antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics. The Red Osierx000D
Dogwood extract has been obtained, however, the extraction method has not been optimized to ensure thatx000D
maximum yield of phenolics in the extract is achieved. Moreover shelf-life properties have not been evaluatedx000D
for the resultant powdered extracts. Red Dog Enterprises Ltd. will need this information in order to completex000D
the registration of the product with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Feed Section before it can bex000D
marketed worldwide. Optimization of phenolic levels and completion of shelf life studies by the University ofx000D
Manitoba will enable registration of the product. It is anticipated that registration of the product will openx000D
opportunities for Red Dog Enterprises Ltd. to create jobs in production, harvesting and marketing of Red Osierx000D
Dogwood extracts. Plans have already been drawn with an Italian company to provide Red Dog Enterprisesx000D
Ltd. with a machine that will be modified at PAMI (Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute) for harvesting ofx000D
the plant. Red Dog Enterprises Ltd. already has patents in Canada, the USA and the EU. One Chinese companyx000D
has also expressed interest in this product. Red Osier Dogwood powder extracts can potentially be used asx000D
ingredients in both animal feed and human food once confirmation tests are done and registration is completed.
