As Internet of Things (IoT) has been quickly changing our world, one of its impacts, smart home or home automation, has unveiled a very promising market. For example, the home access control, lighting control, the security system, thermostats control, can be implemented or assisted with currently available IoT technology. "Smart Home Access" is a promising technological trend generating a substantial potential market. It enables supervised remote home access grant for specific users under various application scenarios. Slickspaces is one of the pioneers in the building sustainability and technology integration. The company is currently looking to extend its smart intercom products and services to potential customers in the home automation market. In particular, the objective of the project is to retrofit the existing old intercom systems to a remotely controlled home access system. It is expected to remotely respond to an access request, which can facilitate various application scenarios, such as granting the keyless access for delivery, guests, etc. This requires creating a general interface module that responds to a remote access request and controls the door locks. In particular, pulse generators that can generate the same control signals as typical old 2-wire and 5-wire intercoms will be designed. The interface module also includes a wireless communication component for receiving remote access signals.x000D

The project outcome will provide Slickspaces a proof-of-concept prototype for retrofitting incumbent building intercom systems into IoT enabled smart intercom. As more and home automation products are entering the market, transforming old buildings into intelligent ones such as smart home, with affordable budget and reliable technology, opens substantial opportunities and new markets for companies like Slickspaces. The growth of BC companies in the marketplace increases the BC and Canadian economic scale, introduces more employment opportunities, and helps to build the critical mass of knowledge based economy in Canada.x000D
