This project is the result of a partnership between Magellan Aerospace and Cegep Edouard-Montpetit's Centrex000D
technologique en aerospatiale (CTA). The project is related to the development of an out-of-autoclave processx000D
for the manufacturing of composite aerospace structural parts, with complex geometry. The innovation reliesx000D
on the establishment of material properties and parameters for a novel OOA process to help down select thex000D
closest autoclave equivalent material until the complete database, required for aerospace structural parts, isx000D
developed. The results of the study will indicate that aerospace composite parts with high performance can bex000D
manufactured using the developed OOA process. The main objective relies on the weight reduction whenx000D
compared to traditionnal metallic parts. The target weight reduction is 50%. The success of this project wouldx000D
allow Magellan to consolidate its position as a leader in the canadien aerospace industry and especially in thex000D
manufacturing of structural parts for helicopters. It could lead to the creation of high quality jobs. The lighterx000D
structures would contribute to the fuel consumption reduction efforts in the aerospace industry. This newx000D
partership is also a great opportunity for CTA to bond with a major actor in the Canadian aerospace industry,x000D
thus reinforcing its position in applied research and development in composite manufacturing. A teacher fromx000D
Cegep Édouard-Montpetit will contribute to the project, and will be able to integrate his new experience in thex000D
training he provides in the Cegep. Also, CTA will hire an intern from the cegep to participate in the project.x000D
This intern will add relevant experience to his formation.
