Developmental disabilities (DD) are a diverse group of conditions caused by physical and/or mentalx000D
impairments. This project focuses on developing a collaborative service robot to help Canadians living withx000D
DD to reach their personal goals and achieve greater independence. Namely, the objective of this research is tox000D
develop a robot architecture that can detect anxiety, which is commonly felt by people with DD, and then adoptx000D
a calming behavior to minimize anxiety and agitation. A robust user anxiety detection and classificationx000D
method will be developed using different communication modes, and will be integrated with the service robot.x000D
The overall project outcomes will be transferable to health and elder care environments, providing a significantx000D
step towards personalizing the robot for clients and caregivers to improve social interactions.
