Natural ingredients is the fastest growing segment of the cosmetics industry.Bio-based 1,3-butanediol isx000D
commonly used as a moisturizing ingredient, and has an estimated market size of $200 million. Ardra Inc. is ax000D
renewable chemicals company operating in Ontario, and has a portfolio of renewable ingredients for cosmeticsx000D
as well as flavor and fragrance industry and is developing a synthetic biology platform to expand its portfoliox000D
of natural ingredients.x000D
Ardra Inc. has partnered with Lambton College's Bio-industrial Process Research Centre to optimize thex000D
fermentation process that will result in high titres of 1,3-butanediol in fermentation broth. The project willx000D
focus on transferring Ardra's current fermentation process and analytical techniques and optimizing it throughx000D
air flow and feeding rates.x000D
The research team includes a research supervisor, research lead and two research students who will workx000D
closely with Ardra Inc. The results of the project which will be high titre of 1,3-butanediol will open newx000D
market opportunities for Ardra. This ultimately will provide benefits for Canada, providing economic andx000D
exporting impact.
