Aurora Wireless Networks is a Canadian company, which designs and manufactures ultra-energy-efficient,x000D
long-range radio equipment. Aurora's products are especially engineered to provide long communication rangex000D
while consuming low amount of power for battery-powered multi-year operation. Aurora Wireless Networksx000D
helps clients develop and/or deploy the most energy efficient, long range, license free, wireless data networksx000D
available. Whether part of the internet of things development or innovative industrial telemetry, Aurorax000D
Wireless Networks offers the hardware and software building blocks for reliable and cost-effective products.x000D
The supplier of a power amplifier, a key component of Aurora's radio transmitter, has recently declared thex000D
amplifier obsolete thereby requiring Aurora seek an alternative cost-effective solution. Since initial workx000D
showed that available alternative solutions were inadequate, a custom-made solution is sought.x000D
The proposed research targets to assist with a redesign of a transmitter system in one of Aurora Wirelessx000D
Networks products that will be manufactured in Calgary.x000D
Dr. Belostotski's research team at the University of Calgary (UofC) has acquired significant practical expertisex000D
in design and development of broadband RF transceiver systems. This expertise matches well with thex000D
challenges faced by Aurora and is expected to help the company with redevelopment of its next generationx000D
products and maintain its market share.x000D
The proposed project is striving to assist the company with the development of a miniature, high-efficiencyx000D
power amplifier. During the period of time supported by the NSERC Engage grant, the UofC team will aim tox000D
identify the power transistors or systems capable of achieving expected performance requirements, demonstratex000D
with simulations the performance of the proposed amplifier, design and develop a circuit-board-levelx000D
implementation of the power amplifier, and perform experimental validation of the amplifier operation.
