Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are less and less able to sustain the constant growth of content we are witnessing nowadays. They are deployed on current Internet architecture and this architecture is becoming a road block to scalability and efficiency in content distribution. Information Centric Networking (ICN) is now emerging as a solid candidate for Future Internet architecture. It decouples information from its sources and uses in-network storage and information awareness for an efficient and scalable content delivery. Several significant benefits are expected (e.g. lower response time and simplified traffic engineering due to in-network caching). 5G is also now emerging and is expected to incorporate ICN in a dirty slate (i.e. incremental) manner. Several advantages are associated with 5G (e.g. 10 Gbps data rate in real networks; high bandwidth in unit area; almost 100% coverage for anytime anywhere connectivity). CDNs over ICN in dirty slate 5G can harness ICN and 5G features to meet the challenging requirements induced by the tremendous content growth of these days. In this project we will investigate architectures and algorithms for CDNs over ICN in dirty slate 5G. The first set of architectures and algorithms will focus on adaptive streaming (a key functionality of CDN) in ICN at large and the second set will deal with the integration of CDN with a dirty slate ICN in 5G environment.
