Hydro-Québec is a public utility that manages the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity inx000D
Quebec. The company is actively involved in transportation electrification, most notably by developing ax000D
network of public fast-charging stations designed to complement stations at home and at work. Currently, therex000D
are 942 public charging stations in Quebec that support more than 14,000 electric vehicles. Given the relativelyx000D
low cost and widespread availability of electricity in Québec, electric vehicles have been identified by thex000D
government of Québec as a critical means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province. In particular, thex000D
government aims to increase the number of electric vehicles in Québec to 100,000 by 2020. This goal can onlyx000D
be achieved if a significant number of public charging stations are deployed across the territory. In this context,x000D
Hydro-Québec has to make crucial decisions about the development of its charging network to successfullyx000D
increase the adoption of electric vehicles by the population. These decisions include: How many publicx000D
charging stations should be added to the current network? Where should these additional stations be located?x000D
How many charging stations should be added at each location? What should be the cost of charging at thesex000D
stations? This six-month Engage project is a first step in addressing these issues.
