This is a follow-on project to an ENGAGE currently underway. Aircraft manufacturers around the world arex000D
transitioning from traditional design and manufacturing approaches such as integrated product developmentx000D
teams and Lean Production. Industry 4.0 is a popular designation to describe the growing importance ofx000D
information systems across the entire product lifecycle. The structure of existing, software-based, productx000D
lifecycle management (PLM) and certification systems do not, in general, integrate PLM with requirementsx000D
management as a generic model.x000D
Cascade Aerospace Inc. is a Canadian corporation specializing in the design, manufacturing and certification ofx000D
customized modifications to domestic and international third-party aircraft. Although many industries arex000D
developing digital systems to manage engineering and manufacturing changes throughout the product lifecycle,x000D
engineering data management for businesses such as Cascade has the added complexity of integrating changesx000D
from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and managing certification and testing requirements. Thex000D
previous ENGAGE project explored the complex stakeholder interactions characteristic of this niche Canadianx000D
aerospace business model at the product life cycle or Tier 1, level. Process mapping techniques for Tier 2x000D
(deliverables), Tier 3 (Activities) and Tier 4 (work instructions and templates) levels in order to propose ax000D
foundational architecture (future state) for an appropriate requirements and data management strategy that bestx000D
suits the needs of this unique Canadian business model.
