Niagara College (NC) Agriculture & Environmental Technologies Innovation Centre (AETIC) and CropPro Consulting (CropPro) are collaborating to further develop the land topography software LandMapR. CropPro will use LandMapR to produce the best field topography models for their precision agriculture services that include variable-rate and custom mapping. Developing and using the most accurate field topography models is an essential part of creating precision agriculture solutions for field crop farmers. CropPro Consulting is a Canadian owned and operated business that began in 2003, primarily focused on Crop Management Services and on-farm research. CropPro offers Mapping Agriculture Production Systems (MAPS) variable-rate services and Technology Enhanced Consulting (TEC) custom mapping and software. LandMapR is software that analyzes field topography data and creates highly accurate field topography and water flow (hydrology) models. This includes capturing all the hills and depressions in a field. Good topography models are uncommon, and complex to build. Dr. Mike Duncan, the NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges (IRCC) in Precision Agriculture & Environmental Technologies, leads the AETIC team, which has extensive experience with programming, agricultural data analysis and mapping software; and programming, using and testing LandMapR. LandMapR was built by Dr. R.A. (Bob) MacMillan, PhD in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & Environmental Modelling and Master of Science (MS) in Soil Sciences as a land classification and hydrology software. Dr. MacMillan provided the software to Niagara College in 2011 to open source. CropPro's utilization of LandMapR topography and water flow datasets will help to provide the profitable solutions that also support good environmental stewardship. The project results will help to support CropPro's primary client base in Saskatchewan, that has 20% of Canada's field crop acreage, with 36.7 million acres. CropPro works the dirt and data to help their farmers' yields and profitability in the very competitive modern agricultural landscape.x000D
