Currently water leaks in buildings are poorly detected and water usage is monitored irregularly or only for the building as a whole.x000D
Water leaks in particular in multi-unit buildings have caused significant rise in insurance premiums. In order for many condox000D
developments to obtain insurance, devices to detect and control leakages are required.x000D
Instantia Lab Inc.s (Instantia) located in St. Catherines developed a water sensor that detects and monitors leaks, water qualityx000D
as well as consumption in a real time manner utilizing the concept of internet of things technology along with the development,x000D
aggregation and analysis of big data. The developed sensor has wide application potential and can be placed in individual homes,x000D
residential buildings/complexes or commercial complexes. The sensor can be controlled by a single manager or by each individualx000D
building/unit owner through a cloud services platform.x000D
Lambton College has partnered with Instantia to focus on machine learning algorithms that will develop an understanding of datax000D
aggregated in the data base by developing an extensive database and mobile dashboard platform that serves both the end userx000D
(consumer) and customers seeking to access the data aggregation and analytics services. The data will be able to pinpoint whatx000D
water leakage occurring in each building or residential/commercial unit based on the meta data gathered upon the setup of ax000D
sensor. The results of this project will create revenue for Instantia, enhancing their existing product as well as a providing solutionsx000D
for those who are required or want to monitor leaks.x000D
